I couldn't find an Android newsgroup, so I'm posting this here since I
made a comparison with Windows Mobile 6.0

I was shooting a video when my DroidX locked up, and after that my
Android 2.2 Gallery (com.motorola.gallery) kept closing every time I
opened it.

After much Googling around and trial and error, here's my fix:
1. Download and install the previous/original Android Gallery
com.cooliris.media (Google for Gallery3DMT.apk), before Motorola/Verizon
decided to replace it.
2. Delete all files under /sdcard/dcim/.thumbnails/
3. Delete all files under /sdcard/Android/data/com.cooliris.media/cache/
Immediately shutdown the phone (do not launch either Gallery).
When you start up the phone, launch the cooliris 3D Gallery and let it
create the thumbnails/cache all the image files.
This may take some time...

Now browse through your folders using the cooliris Gallery to see if any
weird images come up (e.g. no picture).
In my case, I found an image that showed up that didn't exist; I deleted
it using the cooliris 3D Gallery.

Now you can launch the Motorola Gallery.

I have found it wise not to delete an image using a file browser if
either Gallery has already cached (.thumbnailed) it.
Use the Gallery to delete the image if necessary.
Otherwise, the thumbnail image in the cache directory will be orphaned
and continue to show up in the Gallery, and when you click on it, no
image will be available.

The above is just my $0.02, if you ever run into the same situation.
I spent too much time trying to get my photo Gallery to work.

And I just wanted to say that as a former Windows Mobile 6.0 user for
almost 3 years, I have *never* had this much problems just viewing a
gallery of images on a smartphone.

And if you think that is bad, read about this Android bug which deletes
images:
